Sanduguan takes place in an alternate history where at the time of the Spanish colonization in the Philippines, the ship Victoria brought with them an affliction that brought the dead back to life and made them act in the most primal desire of devouring flesh. 

The only way to delay the affliction is through a plant called Vanda Saguina that is only native to the Philippines. Throughout the years, the plant became a luxury few could afford, taken advantage of by the encomienda and the rich. Blood for blood, in time everyone will pay their dues.
